Cary J. Coen has practiced law for many years and been with the firm since 1974, focusing his practice in the areas of general business and corporate law, fiduciary matters, insolvency law, commercial real estate and commercial litigation. Mr. Coen served as a law clerk to the Honorable Edward W. Day, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island from 1968-1969 and as staff counsel for Rhode Island Legal Services. While at Rhode Island Legal Services, he was involved in several matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Coen has represented clients in all levels of state court in Rhode Island and in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island and also has extensive experience as a mediator of business matters including shareholder and commercial disputes.
Mr. Coen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University in 1965 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Boston College Law School in 1968. He is admitted to the Massachusetts, Rhode Island and U.S. Supreme Court Bars and is a member of the Rhode Island and American Bar Associations. Mr. Coen authored “Eminent Domain: Damages,” and Chapter 19 of 1967 Annual Survey of Massachusetts Law (Little Brown & Company, 1968).
