Melvin L. Zurier, Esq.

Melvin L. Zurier has practiced law in Rhode Island since 1957, concentrating his practice in the areas of real estate particularly zoning, leasing and business law, as well as in probate and trust law. Mr. Zurier has represented builders and developers of major office buildings and shopping centers, and has represented both lenders and borrowers in connection with the purchase, sale and refinancing of businesses and real estate developments. Additionally Mr. Zurier has participated in litigation, both trial and appellate, in condemnation, probate and estate, and commercial transactions. He has also acted as an arbitrator in substantial commercial arbitrations. Mr. Zurier has lectured on ethics and administrative law for the Rhode Island Bar Association and previously taught business law at Brown University for several years. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Zurier received his A.B. degree from Harvard College (1950) and his L.L.B. degree from Harvard Law School (1953). He also served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General's Department and holds a commission as Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Mr. Zurier is a member of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bar, the United States Supreme Court Bar, the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He has served as Executive Counsel to the Governor of Rhode Island; Commissioner on Uniform State Laws; Member of the Rhode Island Judicial Council; Counsel to the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission; Chair of the Commission to Study the Providence Zoning Ordinance; Member of the Providence City Plan Commission; and a Member and Chair of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission. He also serves as a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association Ethics and Professionalism Committee, as well as counsel and/or trustee for several charitable foundations.

Mr. Zurier is a past president of the Harvard Club of Rhode Island and has been an active member of the Rhode Island Jewish community. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Miriam Hospital, is a Life Trustee and past president of Temple Beth El, Honorary Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island, a Life Member of the Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association and has served as board member of a number of Rhode Island charitable organizations.
